Snowboarding · Children from 7 years

Children's snowboarding

From their first slide to their first turn in the snowpark, our snowsports instructors teach children aged 7 and over to ride a board, in groups arranged by level.

The lesson

Learning to snowboard in a group

Whether it's the first time on a board or already the first ollies: our experienced and patient snowboard instructors meet every child right where they are. New movements are easier to practise and master in a group than alone – and progressing together is more fun.

As with the ski group lesson: grouping is by level, not age. On the first day of the lesson, the instructors assess ability and put together suitable groups.

Options

Full day or half day

Both lesson formats follow the same structure as the ski lesson – just on a board instead of two skis.

Full day

Morning 09:45–12:00 and afternoon 14:00–16:15, bookable for 3, 5, 6 or 12 days. The fastest way to confident riding on the board.

Half day, afternoon

One block per day, either mornings from 09:45 to 12:00 or afternoons from 14:00 to 16:15, bookable as 3, 5 or 6 half days. Ideal for shorter stays or as a first step.

Ski or snowboard?

On skis, the feet stand apart; on a snowboard, both feet are fixed on one board across the direction of travel – this changes balance and the learning curve. That is why we start snowboarding only from age 7, once strength and coordination are sufficient.

Recommended from age 7
The Swiss Snow League also serves as the level system for snowboarding, and the meeting points per level are listed on the Meeting Points page. Anyone who prefers to be on two skis will find the relevant information in the ski group lesson. Adults will find the right offer in the snowboard lesson for adults or the ski group lesson for adults.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions about the children's snowboard lesson

From what age can children learn to snowboard?

The children's snowboard lesson is for ages 7 and up. For younger children we recommend starting with the ski group lesson first, since balance and strength for the board usually only develop with a bit more experience.

What is the difference to the ski group lesson?

Course structure, times and grouping by level are identical. The difference lies in the equipment: on a snowboard, both feet are fixed on one board, so the sense of balance and the first exercises differ accordingly from skiing.

Full day or half day – what's the difference?

The full-day lesson runs mornings from 09:45 to 12:00 and afternoons from 14:00 to 16:15, bookable for 3 to 12 days. The half-day lesson takes place either mornings from 09:45 to 12:00 or afternoons from 14:00 to 16:15, bookable for 3, 5 or 6 half days.

How are the groups arranged?

By level according to the Swiss Snow League and not by age, so every child learns at the right pace.

Is there lunchtime supervision?

Lunch between 12:00 and 14:00 can be added by email at fun@sssa.ch for CHF 30, subject to availability.
