Skiing in Arosa
225 km of slopes between 1'230 and 2'865 metres, wide sunny slopes above the high valley and two ski areas on one ticket – Arosa is a ski mountain for the whole family.
A high valley built for skiing
Arosa lies at the end of the Schanfigg valley, surrounded by mountains rather than through traffic. Together with Lenzerheide, the area totals 225 km of slopes – around 110 km blue, 87 km red and 28 km black. This distribution explains why Arosa is considered a family and leisure area: almost half the slopes are wide, evenly graded and superbly groomed.
Arosa itself lies at around 1'800 m and is therefore higher than Lenzerheide. The shared ski area extends from 1'230 metres to Parpaner Rothorn at 2'865 metres; it is served by funiculars, gondolas and chairlifts, with only a few drag lifts. The route to the pistes is short: the ABB Kulm Gondel, Weisshornbahn, Tschuggen-Ost chairlift and Hörnli Express take you from the village to the ski area. If you wish, you can cross to the other side of the valley on the Urdenbahn in just a few minutes.

Three reasons for a ski day in Arosa
Short distances, plenty of sun, and terrain that grows with your ability.
Sun and snow
The high valley opens to the south, with Arosa at around 1'800 m – higher than Lenzerheide. The pistes of the shared ski area range from 1'230 to 2'865 metres. This elevation is why skiing is still possible in Arosa in March and April – and why a lunch break on the sun terrace is part of the programme.
Terrain for every level
From the covered magic carpet in the children’s area and the wide blue slopes at Tschuggen to the Black Diamond Slope on the Brüggerhorn: in Arosa, beginner terrain, cruising runs and steep slopes lie so close together that a family can stay together all day long.
Two areas, one ticket
The Urdenbahn has connected the Hörnligrat (2'496 m) with the Urdenfürggli (2'562 m) since 2014 – two cabins for 150 people each, around 5 minutes' travel time. A morning in Arosa, an afternoon in Lenzerheide: not a day trip, but a lift ride.
Slope, family or powder?
Skiing doesn't mean the same thing to everyone in Arosa. We'll show you which terrain suits your level – and take you there.
Slope & carving
From the first snowplough turn to a clean carving turn. The wide blue and red slopes at Tschuggen, Hörnli and Weisshorn give plenty of space to practise technique instead of slaloming around other guests.
Family & children's area
Two children's areas with covered magic carpets, plus the family-friendly Tschuggen area with numerous blue pistes. Our children's courses follow the Swiss Snow League – groups by level, not age.
Freeriding & ski safari
Beyond the slope, the free snowsports terrain begins. The Weisshorn and Parpaner Rothorn are considered the region’s best-known freeriding mountains, and the ski safari runs via Arosa, Lenzerheide and Tschiertschen. We tackle both with a guide.
Where the first turn happens in Arosa
Our own beginner area is the children's area directly by the Innerarosa ski school centre with two covered magic carpets. It is reserved for ski-school participants – no through traffic, no queuing, but children making progress all day. It is used for the taster course and Snowgarden. The Kinderland Maran is open during the Christmas–New Year period and in February and is reserved for ski-school participants.
The Honigland in Prätschli with magic carpet and the short Prätschli drag lift, as well as the Kulmwiese in Innerarosa including Beerenland, are open to the public. And once you have completed your first runs, the Tschuggen area offers numerous blue pistes and its own family piste – the next goal is always within sight.

From Blue Level to racing
Our children's group lessons follow the national learning system of Swiss Snowsports. Grouping is by ability, not by age – each level has clear learning goals and its own badge.
Blue League
The first steps on skis: gliding, braking, learning the snowplough turn and using the lift independently. Lessons take place in the Tschuggen area, and for more advanced children also in the higher area towards Plattenhorn.
Red League
Now it's time to head higher: parallel ski stance, short and long turns, plus your first red runs. The meeting point is the Tschuggen assembly area. This is where you develop a feel for speed and edging.
Black League
Carving, short and long turns, mogul runs, powder snow and slalom. The children refine their technique, ski more confidently on more demanding runs and gain their first experience off the marked slopes.

Freeriding & ski safari
Our freeride lessons take you off the marked slopes through the varied terrain around Arosa, Lenzerheide and Tschiertschen. This is about powder snow, first freeride descents and safe skiing in open terrain. There is no control or safety system away from the marked slopes. Anyone venturing there should be properly prepared and never ski alone.
Freeride lessons take place as private lessons. The daily rate starts at CHF 486 for one person; each additional person costs CHF 10. A group can have a maximum of eight people. Complete avalanche equipment, including transceiver, shovel and probe, is included.

Practical information for your skiing day
Rent skis & boots
Rental equipment is available right in the village: at Schmid Sport – our direct neighbour on the Kulmwiese in Innerarosa –, at Gisler Sport on Poststrasse together with its Bananas Ski & Snowboard Center, at El Grito Sports with several branches, at Intersport Arosa and at Carmenna Sport. Depending on the shop and category, skis including poles start at around CHF 32 per day and children’s skis at around CHF 15. Current prices and availability are available directly from each shop.
Ski pass
The ski pass is not included in the course price and must be purchased separately. Tickets are available primarily from the Arosa Bergbahnen main office and at the Weisshorn valley station, as well as online in the Arosa Lenzerheide ticket shop. The lift company uses dynamic pricing: those who book early generally ski for less. A discounted family rate applies from the fourth child in a family.
Getting there without a car
The Rhaetian Railway runs hourly from Chur to Arosa – around one hour across viaducts, through tunnels and right into the village. From the terminus it is just a few minutes by bus to the ski school meeting point.

For children aged 4 to 17, Sunday to Friday. Full-day lessons run from 09:45 to 12:00 and from 14:00 to 16:15, half-day lessons in the afternoon from 14:00 to 16:15. Meeting point is the Skischulzentrum Innerarosa (Blue League) or the Tschuggen meeting area (Red and Black League), 10 minutes before the lesson starts.
Group lessons from 3 people; groups may be combined during low season. Until and including 31.10., you receive a 10% discount on snowsports courses and season passes; from 1.11., a 5% discount applies when booking up to 30 days before the course starts. Lift tickets must be purchased separately; children up to and including age 5 receive a free Arosa Lenzerheide lift ticket but still need a ticket. Extension day from 3 course days, supplementary lesson for the day trip from 3 lessons. Lunch is reserved by email at fun@sssa.ch; the ticket must be paid for, collected and given to the child by 09:30 on the same day. The optional day trip to Lenzerheide costs CHF 30 for lunch and supervision; if the child only has an afternoon ticket, the morning must be booked as a supplementary lesson. Tickets are personal and non-transferable.
Ski group lessons for adults
From 18 years, Sunday to Friday. Adults have one half day per day in the group course, always in the morning from 09:45 to 12:00. The only exception is the high-season week from 14 to 19 February: then the adult group course takes place exclusively in the afternoon from 14:00 to 16:15. There is no full-day course for adults. If you would like to ski all day, combine the course with a private lesson. The meeting point is the Innerarosa ski school centre, 10 minutes before the course starts.
The one-off extension lesson can be booked from 3 lessons. Group lessons from 3 people; during low season, groups may be combined or no group may be formed. Until and including 31.10., you receive a 10% discount on snowsports courses and season passes; from 1.11., a 5% discount applies when booking up to 30 days before the course starts. Lift tickets must be purchased separately. Tickets are personal and non-transferable.
Private ski lessons
Private lessons can be booked daily – alone or with up to 6 people at the same price. Up to 8 people are possible only for the Skisafari and circular tours; each additional person costs CHF 10 extra.
The full-day rate from 10:00 to 16:00 includes a one-hour lunch break. For a short session, a 55-minute individual lesson is available; this lesson is mainly aimed at our young guests. Supervision at the Innerarosa ski school centre: morning including lunch CHF 100, afternoon including afternoon snack CHF 65.

When do the ski group lessons take place?
The ski and snowboard group lessons run from Sunday to Friday. There is no group lesson on Saturdays (except on 26.12.2026 and 02.01.2027), when only private lessons are offered. Morning lessons run from 9:45am to 12:00pm and afternoon lessons from 2:00pm to 4:15pm. Children's courses can be booked full-day or half-day in the afternoon; there is no morning-only course for children. Adults generally ski in the morning. The exception is peak week from 14 to 19 February: during this week, lessons for adults take place exclusively in the afternoon.
How many children are in a group?
Each group has a maximum of 8 participants. Grouping is based on level rather than age, so that every child can learn at the right pace. During peak season, group size may occasionally differ.
What does a ski group lesson cost?
A group course starts at CHF 162 for three half days. This is the starting price; you can see the binding prices in the booking system.
What languages are lessons taught in?
Group lessons are held in German, with English offered in parallel if needed. Our snow sports instructors also speak French, Dutch, Italian and Spanish – depending on availability, these languages can only be booked in combination with private lessons.
From what age can children learn to ski?
Ski group lessons are available from 4 years, the taster lesson already from 2 years. For toddlers from 1.5 years, there is the Sunnastrahl childcare.
Where is the meeting point for the lesson?
The meeting point for lessons depends on the course and level. Lessons take place either at the Skischulzentrum Innerarosa, at the Tschuggen assembly area, at the Weisshorn valley station or at the Ausserarosa office. How big is the ski area?
Arosa Lenzerheide offers 225 km of slopes between 1'230 and 2'865 metres in altitude. The Urdenbahn gets you from Arosa into Lenzerheide and back in around five minutes.
